It’s the lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day this week, with some fun events for all ages happening at your Community Center!
On Tuesday, March 14 at 6 PM, we’ve got a special St. Pat’s-themed Trivia Night! ‘Let’s Get Quizzical’ returns with 2-3 rounds of Irish trivia questions mixed in with other categories – and our First Place winning team members each get a ticket to the September 8-9 Irish Féile on the Emerald Isle, which is two full days packed with authentic Irish music, dance, in an event fast becoming one of Michigan’s most notable Irish festivals. The Second Place team will be treated to various Féile merchandise like t-shirts, coozie drunk holders, and more. No more than 6 people per team, and if possible, please place your food orders by 5 PM, so we can get you served and seated in time for the brain games. Drinks and snacks provided, and your donations appreciated.
Wednesday from 5-7 PM is another creative ‘Time for Art’ class, led by Cindy Ricksgers. This week is an Open Studio, allowing you to bring your own project, or learn techniques from previous classes, using materials on hand. $5.00 suggested donation.
Thursday at 7 PM the BIC Center hosts a special Taste Testing event, sponsored by the Emerald Isle Irish Féile Committee. Local bakers and cooks are invited to bring their best samples of Irish Stew, Potato Soup, or Scones to the event. The event is open to the public and will be handled much like a chili cook-off, with the public sampling each offering and voting by placing a special ticket next to the stew, soup, or scone sample of their choice. The winning recipes will be served in the Irish Tea Room during the September 8-9 Féile – with the winning recipe-holders in each category each awarded one ticket to the festival and recognized with a special display in the Tea Room.
Friday is ‘Shamrocks and Shenanigans’, a day filled with fun for kids. Beginning at the Community School from 10 AM-12 Noon, we’ll be getting kids in the spirit by offering face painting and hair coloring (with one-day, stay-safe and washable products). We’ll also be offering face-painting and hair coloring later that day from 3:30-5 PM at the BIC Center, where kids are welcome to to participate in fun crafts and activities, including: Paint the Street with Leprechaun Feet– Kids will decorate the sidewalk with chalk and St. Paddy’s themed stencils; Fruit Loop Marshmallow Rainbow Snack Craft – A fun craft (and snack!) that includes putting together fruit loops and marshmallows to create a tasty rainbow; and End of the Rainbow Twirler Craft- Kids can create their own ‘Pot at the end of the Rainbow’ hanging twirler to decorate their homes for St. Paddys Day! After crafts, we will be showing a themed movie called ‘Luck of the Irish’ from 5:00 – 6:30 PM to finish up the day. This movie will be conducted Slumber Party style – so if you can, please bring a blanket, sleeping bag, or pillow to get comfy with! Everyone from the community is welcome for this viewing and we will provide seating for individuals who do not want to sit on the auditorium floor. Bottled water and popcorn will be provided.
Throughout the rest of the week we’ve got Pickleball in the theater at 10 AM Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program at 1:30 AM in the Hangout (this week on Friday only); COA Bingo in the Hangout at 1 PM Wednesday; and Games Galore, also in the Hangout at 1 PM Thursday. On Saturday, the Community Center will be closed to accommodate the Celtic Games taking place on Main Street and in the Shamrock Bar and Restaurant. That means no 4 & 7 PM movies this weekend – but we’ll be back in full swing after The Great Day has been properly celebrated! We’re looking forward to seeing you at your Community Center this week!
