We’re still waiting for spring to arrive on America’s Emerald Isle, but the chill keeps holding on. Here’s to trees finally budding and flowers blooming soon. In the meantime, a round-up of activities at the Community Center this week, with more details on the Community Calendar at www.biccenter.org.
On Tuesday from 11 AM to 2 PM is a Veteran’s Social in the BIC Center lobby. Veterans age 60 and older will receive a complimentary Charlevoix County Commission On Aging Meal Voucher, can meet the County Veteran Affairs officer, and socialize with other veterans. Complimentary coffee and doughnuts will be served, as well as cookies provided by the Beaver Island Elk’s Lodge.
Later on Tuesday from 6-8 PM is another round of our popular Trivia Night, with this week’s ‘Let’s Get Quizzical !’ theme being the ’70’s and ’80’s. Great prizes, snacks and drinks provided, and feel free to bring a dish to pass. It’s a BYOB event, and donations are welcome!
‘Time for Art’ on Wednesday at 5 PM is titled ‘Celebrate Your Creative Self’. Cindy Ricksgers will teach you how to texture surfaces, embellish them with watercolor and acrylic paints, and finish with graphite and colored pencils to create a landscape, seascape, or forest floor.
Friday from 8-10 AM is Senior Coffee and Doughnuts in the lobby for our 60-and-over friends: come in for java, sweets, and conversation.
In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re hosting ‘Muffins with Mom’ on Saturday at 2 PM. A special event for Moms, Grandmas, Aunts, or another special woman in your child’s life, we’ll have muffins, coffee, tea, and lemonade in the lobby – and all will have a chance to make crafts for their loved one, including painted flowerpots, planted flowers, and framed handprints.
Saturday movies are the 4 PM animated action-adventure ‘Justice League x RWBY: Superheroes and Huntsmen, Part One’. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Vixen are transported to the strange world of Remnant and find themselves turned into teenagers. Meanwhile, Remnant heroes Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang must combine forces with the Justice League to uncover why their planet has been mysteriously altered in the face of a looming threat. At 7 PM is the drama ‘Living’, starring Bill Nighy as a man suffering from a terminal illness who moves into a care home. He forms an unlikely friendship with a young man in his twenties with Down Syndrome – but together they must come to terms with their impending separation and the fragility of life. Concessions and food menu available, and donations appreciated.
