Summer is here (officially) and our Celebrate Variety 2024 season heads into summer this weekend with two nights of music on the BIC Center stage.  Friday night The Pairs will be here as the signature entertainment event for the 2024 Beaver Island Sustainability Show and Fair. With three distinct lead singer/songwriters, The Pairs offer a unique blend of music with stories of life’s hope, hilarity, and hardship. These classically trained vocalists blur the line between the stage and the crowd as if we’ve pulled up a seat around their family’s lively kitchen table. We are excited to welcome them to the BIC Center. The Pairs take to the stage at 7:30 Friday evening.

Saturday night Island Favorite Claudia Schmidt is back this time with her longtime friend and performing companion Sally Rogers. Claudia and Sally have both toured the nation independently for decades to rave reviews.  Together on the stage, their voices combine to create an extra special experience. “I’m always thrilled to come back to the Island,” says Claudia, and now that Mark and I have some property on the island it feels even more like coming home, Showtime is 7:30 Saturday evening.

Tickets for both The Pairs as well as Claudia Schmidt with Sally Rogers are available at tickets.biccenter.org.  While you are there, check out the rest of our offerings for the summer and fall. You’ll find music (ranging from rock to classical), plays, dinning events, our Sunset Summer Gala event and more.  And, for a limited time only, there are bundle deals and discount tickets available.

In addition to music, the BIC Center has welcomed back Summer Yoga with classes available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, including special therapeutic sessions on Mondays. You’ll also find COA Cardio Drumming and the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program on the calendar.  This week we also have Beaver Island Sustainability Show and Fair events at the BIC center and next week we host Northern Lake Michigan Islands Collaborative meetings.

We’re also excited to welcome our annual donors and volunteers to a board hosted dinner on the Summer Solstice, which marks our official start of the summer season at the BIC Center.  That event is this Thursday, so the Center will be closing early to get ready for dinner.

Looking ahead to June 28-29, the CMU Summer Theater Program returns to our stage for two performances: On Friday at 7:30 PM is Exit: Pursued By A Bear. Inspired by Shakespeare’s stage direction, this is a dark comedy that explores domestic violence, abuse, and relationships through humor and theatrics. On Saturday at 7:30 PM is Nothin’ But A Good Time: An 80’s Review – Get out the hairspray and leg warmers and join us for this nostalgia-fueled music and dance journey through the 1980s with songs like: “True Colors”, “Man in the Mirror” and “I Love Rock’n’Roll”! Ticketed Reserved Seat Event. All seats $20 for adults and $10 for students 18 and under. CMU students with CMU ID shown at check-in are $5. Seating selection made at checkout.

We look forward to seeing you at your Beaver Island Community Center.
