The third full week of September has arrived with summery weather and a gradually quieting tourist flow. But as always, the BIC Center has reasons to come in our doors, from ongoing programs found on our Community Calendar to a weekend highlight detailed below.

Tuesday at 4:00 PM is the monthly meeting of the Beaver Island Association. Meeting materials are available on the BIA website at beaverislandassociation.org. Thursday at 4:30 PM is the monthly meeting of the Beaver Island Telecommunications Advisory Committee. Its task is to review communications services on the island and make recommendations to the Township Boards on ways those services can be improved. Both meetings are open to the public.

Moving ahead to Saturday at 3:00 PM, the Beaver Island District Library hosts a Kickoff Event of a months-long series of programs around author Andrew Krivak’s sci-fi/fantasy novel The Bear, sponsored by an NEA grant. At this event BIDL will be distributing books, detailing some of its ongoing scheduled events and programming around the novel, and offering the first in a series of movies on the theme of survival to be shown at the Community Center – the first film, shown at 4:00 PM, will be a family adventure movie suitable for children titled Lost in the Barrensthe story of an orphaned teen and a young tribal hunter who become lost in the wilderness.

A reminder that next Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 PM is another round of Let’s Get Quizzical! our popular Trivia Night games. Please join us for a night of brain teasers and lots of laughs. There is no fee for teams to play – however, it is still required that you register beforehand at store.biccenter.org. Maximum number of teammates is 6 people. Please have only one team member register for the entire team. Bring a dish to share if you are able to do so. And remember, this is a B.Y.O.B. event so come prepared! PLEASE PLACE YOUR FOOD ORDERS EARLY SO WE CAN HAVE YOU SERVED AND SEATED BY 6 PM, THANK YOU.

See you at the Community Center !
