Who is PABI?
PABI is short for The Preservation Association of Beaver Island, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Michigan corporation that is the owner and operator of the Beaver Island Community Center and WVBI, the island’s community radio station. PABI’s mission is to promote an enduring sense of community, cooperation and pride among the Island’s diverse friends, families and visitors. We envision a welcoming Island where a strong sense of community thrives. Where diverse residents and visitors support an inclusive culture and unique environment.

Knowing that cooperation and collaboration requires shared communication and experience—PABI opened the Beaver Island Community Center in 2008, adding a local community radio station in 2014. Together, they make information and a variety of healthy and fun activities conveniently available for Island residents and visitors including concerts, theater rental space, physical activities, games, work spaces, internet/printing, gathering space and much more!
PABI, the Community Center and WVBI rely 100% on private revenue streams, as no public funding is currently levied for support. Since it’s beginning, PABI has relied on the generous time and talent of local volunteers, and financial revenues from three major sources:
- Annual-giving, donations and an endowment;
- PABI fund-raising events; and,
- Community Center activities, concessions, and rentals.
Increasing costs and a growing need for community services have increased our need for financial support. Relying fully on private donations, events and earned income, you can help us continue those important services to the Island Community by making a charitable contribution to PABI. Because PABI is a 501(c)(3) organization, your contributions are tax deductible as a charitable contribution. As a small non-profit organization on a remote Lake Michigan Island—we need and treasure every PABI supporter.
In addition to contributions from financial donors, PABI is dependent on volunteers. Volunteers help staff the BIC Center, run our shows, show our movies and move music on our radio station. We’d love to have you join our volunteer team.
