It’s another seasonal shift this week, as we move from September into October. Leading the highlights at the Community Center on Monday is a DNR-hosted Open House from 3:00 -7:00 PM in the theater. The public is invited to comment on proposed forest treatment plans identified for the Beaver Island State Wildlife Research Area. These treatment proposals are the culmination of many years of planning through the Northern Lake Michigan Islands Collaborative and seek to address goals identified within the Implementation Plan for the Management of State-owned Lands on Beaver Island.  At the open house attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the process taken to develop these forest management proposals, provide comments, and ask questions of DNR staff. Please see the Community Calendar on this page for more information on this and other BIC Center/local programs and events.

Saturday at 6:00 PM is the dramatic film The Road, part of the BIDL’s ongoing Big Read program series, which focuses on themes of survival through books, movies, and other events. The movie follows the harrowing journey of an ailing father who defends his son as they slowly travel to the sea in a dangerous post-apocalyptic world. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Cormac McCarthy, The Road received numerous nominations, including a BAFTA nomination for Best Cinematography.

See you at the Community Center !
