A Week of Paintbrushes, Microphones, and Defying Gravity
The Beaver Island Community Center continues to be a place to move, create, connect, and unwind together. Whether you’re looking to stretch your body, try something new, share a song, or settle in for a good movie, there’s something quietly waiting for you here this week.

Mornings at the Center often begin with movement and familiar faces. Pickleball meets on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10:00 AM and is one of our favorite ways to get moving and stay connected. On Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM, our Arthritis Foundation Chair Strength Training class offers a gentle, supportive way to build strength, improve mobility, and care for our joints—all from the comfort of a chair.

As the week moves on, a little fun and creativity take center stage. On Wednesday at 1:00 PM, the Beaver Island Senior Advisory Committee hosts Bingo in the Community Center—open to everyone, with the chance to win a small prize and enjoy some easygoing company. Then in the evening at 5:00 PM, Time for Art returns with Leila Freijy, who will be guiding us through watercolor painting. This highly anticipated class is already full.

Fridays carry their own kind of warmth. From 9:00 to 11:00 AM, the Center hosts Senior + Veterans Coffee & Donuts in the lobby. Thanks to the generosity of Apex Insurance, veterans and seniors 60+ can enjoy free coffee and donuts—a simple gathering that has become a meaningful weekly ritual. Then at 6:00 PM, the auditorium fills with music as Open Mic + Karaoke begins, hosted by Herb Ledbetter. Sing, play, read, perform, or simply come to listen and cheer others on. All ages and all talents are welcome; it’s one of the Center’s most joyful reminders that creativity belongs to everyone.

For Saturday Movies at the BIC Center, we’ll take a trip to Oz with a special double feature. Wicked screens at 3:00 PM, followed by Wicked: For Good at 6:00 PM, which leans into the lasting impact of love, the weight of our choices, and the people who shape us along the way. Popcorn will be ready, and your donations keep the screen aglow.

Week after week, the Beaver Island Community Center remains a place for movement, creativity, rest, laughter, and belonging. Whether you come once a week or once in a while, we’re always glad to see you.
