Week at a Glance: The GLIA Summit, Trivia Night, and Superman at the Movies
Fall Equinox has arrived on our fair island, marking another turn on the seasonal road. Leading the major programs at BIC Center this week is the annual summit of the Great Lakes Islands Alliance, an organization of over twenty islands whose mission is to “encourage relationship building, foster information exchange, and leverage resources to address shared challenges and embrace opportunities to benefit islands”. Most segments of the summit will take place at the Community Center on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. While registration is now closed for those segments, the public is invited to an informal meet-and-greet with GLIA members at 7:30 PM Tuesday at the CMU Biological Station, which will include live local entertainment. (Please note that the upstairs Hangout and our auditorium will be closed to the public during portions of the GLIA summit, with closed hours posted on signage in the lobby. Otherwise, our lobby and counter are open for business as usual.)
On Tuesday at 6:00 PM is another rousing night of competitive Trivia, as Let’s Get Quizzical! happens in the Hangout. There is no fee for teams to play, however, it is still required that you register beforehand at the Tickets page above. Maximum number of teammates is 6 people. Please have only one team member register for the entire team. Bring a dish to share if you like – and remember, this is a B.Y.O.B. event so come prepared! PLEASE PLACE YOUR FOOD ORDERS EARLY SO WE CAN HAVE YOU SERVED AND SEATED BY 6 PM, THANK YOU.
Saturday’s double-feature in the theater starts with How To Train Your Dragon at 3:00 PM, a PG Action-Adventure saga in which an ancient threat endangers both Vikings and dragons alike on the isle of Berk, leading to the friendship between Hiccup, an inventive Viking, and Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, which becomes the key to both species forging a new future together. Then at 6:00 PM it’s the PG-13 Superman, where Superman must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent. As the embodiment of truth, justice and the human way, he soon finds himself in a world that views these as old-fashioned. Freewill donation suggested, and our Concession stand open for snacks, a meal or both.
See you at the Community Center!
