The winter’s freeze-and-thaw cycle continued last week, bringing an ebb and flow of thin ice to the harbor, along with fog banks that grew and retreated. Seen here are a bit of both effects in Paradise Bay on a sunset evening, taken from our upstairs Hangout.

Along with our regularly scheduled programs found at https://biccenter.org/calendar/, these are this week’s highlights at your Community Center. Let’s Get Quizzical! Trivia Night comes a day early this week, happening on Monday at 6 PM. (We moved the date to accommodate Tuesday’s Election Day voters and poll workers.) Come with a beverage of your choice and a snack to share if you are so inclined. There is no fee to play, but you must reserve a table for your team by visiting store.biccenter.org. No more than 6 players to a team.

Wednesday at 5 PM our esteemed Time for Art instructor Cindy Ricksgers leads a class in making Fish Prints, so bring your curiosity and learn how to make art of the lake’s finned creatures. $5.00 donation, but free for those 60 and over.

Saturday brings a sweet double-feature centered on the legendary Willy Wonka. At 4 PM we’re showing the classic 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder as the eccentric candy wizard in the story of Charlie, a poor but hopeful boy who wins one of five coveted golden tickets that will send him on a tour of Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory. At 7 PM is 2023’s Wonka, with Timothée Chalamet portraying a young and poor Willy Wonka who dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, only to find that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers. We’ll have special candy treats at the front counter for this Movie Saturday, and even a Golden Ticket of our own hidden somewhere within them! Donations welcome, and concessions available.
