Week At A Glance: A Candlelit Jazz Concert, National Security Seminar, and Jennifer Westwood and The Handsome Devils
It’s another full week at your Community Center, with a national security seminar and two excellent music performances on the roster. Check out the Community Calendar at the top of this page for more on our regular programs and ticket info, and the highlights are detailed below.
The BI Robot Film Festival scheduled for July 7 has been canceled.
July 8 at 7:30 PM is the first installment of the Beaver Island Jazz Series, welcoming married musical duo Edye Evans Hyde and Mike Hyde to the stage. Hundreds of candles will surround these talented musicians, creating a stunning, intimate setting. After performing for years with various sized ensembles including small combos, big bands, and orchestras, Edye and Mike are excited to venture out in an intimate setting as a voice and guitar duo specializing in jazz and light pop. Be ready to bask in the comfort of classic gems from the Great American Songbook and choice selections from various other genres.
On the 10th is a second seminar on national security, led by national security expert Col. Thomas P. Ehrhard, USAF retired, and John Manza, retired Marine Corps officer and former NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations. Together, they’ll provide unique insights into the evolving landscape of global security, defense strategy, and the challenges facing NATO and the U.S. military. This event is free and open to the public, and takes place in the upstairs Hangout.
Gracing our stage on the 12th is Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils. At the helm of the band, Jennifer and guitarist Dylan Dunbar share an affection for gospel, Texas blues, Stax, and Muscle Shoals-era artists – and both have family roots tying them inextricably to the sounds of Appalachia. Jennifer and Dylan, along with a band of A-listers and underdogs from Detroit bars to the Grammy stage, have built a family of fans from New York to Texas, and now Beaver Island!
