Week At A Glance: Trivia Night, Summer Yoga, and John Two-Hawks Concert
Your Community Center is getting busier as we dive further into summer, with a little something for everyone this week. For our ongoing programs, ticket information, and more, see the menu options at the top of this page at biccenter.org – and read on for the main events.
On Tuesday at 6:00 PM is Let’s Get Quizzical! Trivia Night (only once per month in the summer). If more than 10 teams register, we will hold Trivia Night in the Theater instead of the Hangout. Join us for a night of brain teasers and lots of laugh! The fee to play is $20 per team – please have one person register for the whole team. Maximum number of teammates is 6 people. NOTE: You only need to reserve one ticket for the entire team. Please bring a dish to share if you are able to do so. And remember, this is a B.Y.O.B. event so come prepared! Purchase tickets here.
Yoga is back for the summer, courtesy of our accomplished instructors Lisa and Sue. Restorative Yoga class will begin this Wednesday, June 18 from 9:30 -10:30 AM. Restorative Yoga is a relaxing form which focuses on the release of mind-body tension to bring the nervous system into a stage of balance and healing. Then this Friday, June 20 at 9:30 -10:30 AM Basic Flow Yoga begins. Beginning next week, Basic Flow Yoga will take place on Mondays and Fridays from 9:30-10:30 AM, and Restorative Yoga on Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30 AM throughout the summer. For each class, please note: Please arrive ten minutes early to get set up; mats and props will be disinfected after each use, but you can bring your own if you like; check in at the front counter for which room yoga classes will be held in; and a $10 donation per class goes to the BIC Center.
On Friday at 7:00 PM the BIC Center will feature local Irish and Native American Dancers and musicians, along with a concert by John Two-Hawks, one of the world’s preeminent Native Flute artists, authors and speakers. This seminal celebration honors the powerful threads of Celtic & Native American Wisdom that are part of the proud heritage of Beaver Island. Q&A will be held before the performances from 7:00-7:30 p.m. This concert is a part of the Beaver Island Sustainability Fair. Again, see the Tickets page on this website for details. And on Saturday, the Beaver Island Sustainability Fair Information Session takes place from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, featuring representatives & handouts from on-Island and off-Island organizations that carry out vital cultural and environmental work. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with organization representatives and learn about their work.
See you at the Community Center!
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
