We had a very grateful small-sized person win our Valentine’s Candy Jar Drawing last week! Vaughn Siller placed the guess closest to the jar’s 487 pieces of candy, taking home the sweet-filled prize – which he promised to share with his siblings. Congrats to Vaughn for the big win!

There are more draws for the public at BIC Center this week, with details on the Community Calendar at biccenter.org. On Tuesday Peaine and St. James Townships’ host two Listening Sessions focused on the subject of Short Term Rentals on the island. The Townships are requesting your information, ideas, and data as they look to understand potential long-term land use. This is your opportunity to share and collaborate! The first session takes place at Tuesday, 9 am in the upstairs Hangout, with the second session happening at 6 PM the same day, same location. (A Zoom link is included in the Community Calendar listing for these forums.)

Wednesday at 5 PM Time for Art hosts Catherine and Joel Meintsma leading a tie-dye class in the auditorium, a repeat of last year’s popular installment in our art class series. That’s followed at 7 PM by Adult Faith Formation in the Hangout.

Friday is our regular 9-11 AM Senior+Vets Coffee and Doughnuts time in the lobby, an ongoing oasis of community connection with treats through the winter months and beyond. Saturday on the big screen features two compelling films, with a 4 PM showing of the PG-13 animated adventure-comedy Orion and the Dark, in which The Dark takes young boy Orion on a nighttime trip to prove to the youngster that the only thing to fear is fear itself. At 7 PM we present the critically-acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon. Written and directed by Martin Scorsese and nominated for nine Academy Awards including Best Picture, this recent release tells the true-life story of the discovery of oil in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, leading to the nightmarish saga of Osage people being murdered one by one – until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.

Along with these highlights we’ve got a smattering of local meetings, Cardio Drumming, Pickleball and more – so we’ll see you here at your Community Center !
