There’s a busy week ahead at the Beaver Island Community Center, with community conversations, classes, games, workshops and live music all on the schedule.
The week will start Monday with an important community discussion about the future of broadband on Beaver Island. At 5:00 p.m., the BIA Broadband Committee and the townships’ Joint Telecommunications Advisory Committee will present an update on a proposed community-owned, all-fiber broadband system that could bring high-speed service to the entire Island. They’ll cover how the system could work, what it could cost and what the next steps might be.
One of the week’s highlights will come Thursday at 7:30 p.m., when longtime Beaver Island favorite Claudia Schmidt returns to the BIC Center stage, joined by acclaimed folk artist Sally Rogers. The two longtime performers will bring soaring harmonies, guitars, dulcimers, original songs, folk favorites and plenty of stories for a special evening of music. Tickets are $30.
The week will also include yoga and strength classes, Mah Jongg, bingo and a Wednesday evening TUNES Percussive Dance Workshop with internationally acclaimed dancer and musician Nic Gareiss.
Friday will wrap things up with Senior and Veterans Coffee & Donuts at 8:30 a.m., followed by Basic Flow Yoga and Chair Strength Training at 9:30.
From a community conversation about the Island’s broadband future to an evening of music with two celebrated performers, there will be plenty happening this week at the BIC Center.
