Week at a Glance: December 15-20
A week to gather, listen, and celebrate the season

With winter fully upon us and the days growing shorter, the Community Center is filled with warmth, music, and familiar rhythms. Whether you’re joining us for movement, a candlelit concert, or a cozy movie night, this week brings opportunities to connect with neighbors and savor the season in meaningful ways.
If you’re looking to stay active through the winter months, we have several options. Friendly, all-levels Pickleball takes place Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the auditorium. While Thursday and Friday classes are canceled for seasonal events, Chair Strength Training continues Tuesday and Friday at 10:30 AM in the Hangout. Thursday mornings feature Senior Tai Chi at 10:00 AM, a gentle, flowing practice that supports balance and flexibility. There’s something for every pace—come move, stretch, and enjoy the mornings with us.
Just want to visit with neighbors? On Wednesday at 1:00 PM, Senior Advisory Committee Bingo brings classic fun, prizes, and good conversation, welcoming participants of all ages for an afternoon of smiles and community. And as always, seniors 60+ and veterans are invited to our free Friday morning gathering at 9:00 AM. Enjoy fresh coffee, donuts, and friendly conversation, generously provided by Apex Insurance.
Music fills the center as the week unfolds. Wednesday evening’s Candlelit Christmas features the NoMi String Collective performing beloved holiday music by candlelight, accompanied by thoughtfully chosen seasonal readings. This free concert is presented in collaboration with the Beaver Island Performing Arts Alliance and the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. On Thursday evening, the TUNES Music Makers Holiday Recital highlights students of all ages on piano, guitar, fiddle, drums, mandolin, and saxophone, with a special appearance by Ruby John and the 2nd–6th grade fiddle crew.
The week concludes with Saturday Movies at the BIC Center, featuring two holiday favorites. The afternoon screening of Home Alone brings laughter, mischief, and heart, while the evening showing of It’s a Wonderful Life offers a timeless reminder of the power of community, kindness, and hope. These movie nights are made possible through community donations—your generosity keeps the big screen lit and the popcorn popping.
We’ve filled the week with good company and great moments—the only thing missing is you. Join us and help make the season even brighter.
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
