Valentine’s hearts and treats abounded at the BIC Center last Saturday, as we hosted a Kids’ Valentine’s party for island families, pictured here. With the generous help of our volunteers we put on the fun for local families, complete with hand-print plaster crafts, tables of goodies, and an afternoon kids’ movie. It was a delight seeing parents and children alike celebrate the February holiday in the warm spaces of your Community Center.
We’ve got more treats in store this week at the heart of a great community. Leading attractions are Tuesday’s Let’s Get Quizzical! Trivia Night at 6 PM in the Hangout, this time a Valentine’s-themed affair. BYOB, a snack to share if you like, and beforehand, please register your team at store.biccenter.org – no more than 6 to a team.
Wednesday at noon the COA hosts a Valentine’s Day luncheon in the auditorium, featuring a 4 ounce steak, two sauteed shrimp in a buttery sauce, roasted potatoes, dessert and beverages. Cost is $9.00 for those 60+, and $11.00 for those 59 and under. Please RSVP by calling Lonnie Allen at 231-448-2124. At 5 PM the same day is another session of Time for Art, this week with Cindy Ricksgers teaching Oil Pastel techniques.
Saturday movies boast a 4 PM showing of The Marvels, a PG-13 action-fantasy where Carol Danvers gets her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to work together to save the universe. That’s followed at 7 PM by the R-rated comedy thriller Self Reliance, the story of a man who, given the opportunity to participate in a life or death reality game show, discovers there’s a lot to live for. Concessions available and donations appreciated.
Add to that our ongoing programs and a scattering of meetings found on the Community Calendar, and February has plenty to check out at the BIC Center. See you here!
