Last week’s Spring Break may have left fewer people on the isle for a while, but Saturday’s Easter Eggstravaganza at BIC Center brought in families for treats, games, and of course pics with the Easter Bunny. Thanks to Sarah Siller and friends for creating this fun event for local kids to celebrate the spring holiday.

This week starts with a rare astronomical phenomenon everyone on the island can enjoy. NASA says an odd alignment of Saturn’s diplanar ring system will result in noticeable reductions in gravity in freshwater island locations. For the most obvious effect, go to the highest elevation location available and jump. Experts say you should only drift a foot or two before the effect fades and you’re brought back down for a gentle recovery.

UPDATED on 4/2: Due to unforeseen circumstances, this Wednesday’s Time for Art class is canceled. The class series will resume next week. But at 4 PM Thursday the Island Roots Gardening Club meets in the Hangout. There will be no presentation at this meeting, but the group will be discussing future projects with exciting plans coming up. This meeting is a potluck, so please bring a snack or dish to pass.

On Saturday two entertaining movies grace our screen. The first at 4 PM is Disney’s animated action-adventure Wish, in which a young girl named Asha wishes on a star and gets a more direct answer than she bargained for when a trouble-making star comes down from the sky to join her. At 7 PM is the PG-13 musical comedy Mean Girls – Cady Heron is a hit with the Plastics, an A-list girl clique at her new school. But everything changes when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George. Concessions available, and donations welcome.
