It’s been a freeze-and-thaw cycle lately on Beaver Island, but the BIC Center stays warm and inviting with our regularly scheduled programs and a new sponsored class this week! More event details for the week of February 19-25 can be found on the biccenter.org Community Calendar.
First, a notice that the Harbour Bodega-sponsored Open Mic Night originally slated for this Tuesday, February 21 from 6-8 PM has been canceled. Join us in the upstairs Hangout on Tuesday, March 7th from 6-8 PM for the next showcase of local talent, hosted by Bodega owner Vicki Fingeroot and friends.
Looking ahead to Wednesday at 1 PM is another round of COA Bingo held in the Hangout; feel free to bring your own lunch, or buy concessions from the lobby counter. Later the same day from 5-7 PM in the BIC Center theater is our ‘Time for Art’ class with multi-talented art instructor Cindy Ricksgers – this time ‘The Drawing Club of Improbable Dreams’, which will temporarily sum up the ‘Drawing Club’ sessions. Materials provided, and a $5.00 donation suggested.
On Thursday at 6 PM in the Hangout is ‘the first installment of Adulting 101’, an educational seminar sponsored by the Michigan State University Extension, with this session focusing on the ins and outs of buying insurance. Snacks and drinks provided!
Saturday’s movies are Disney’s animated adventure ‘Strange World’, following Searcher Clade’s immersion into an alien realm filled with bizarre creatures, wonder and risk, screening at 4 PM; and 7 PM’s critically acclaimed ‘Armageddon Time’, the coming-of-age story of a young Jewish boy confronting privilege and prejudice in 1980’s New York City, starring Anne Hathaway and Anthony Hopkins. Concessions and food menu on-site, and donations always appreciated.
These offerings join Pickleball in the theater at 10 AM on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday; COA Chair Yoga on at 10 AM on Monday/Wednesday/Friday; the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program at 10:30 AM on Tuesday/Friday; COA-led Senior Tai Chi at 10 AM Thursday; and ‘Games Galore’ at 1 PM Thursday, all held in the Hangout.
