To say that this is the busiest summer we’ve had in a long time at the BIC Center certainly isn’t an overstatement. We’ve had seven live events in our theater so far and are looking forward to the RFD Boys on August 14th, our Fall Equinox dinner on September 22nd (with planned live entertainment) and a possible music show on Saturday of Bite of Beaver weekend. Speaking of the RFD Boys, do you have your ticket yet?  They are available in our online ticket store at ticket.biccenter.org.

Our exciting 2021 BIC Center WVBI Starry Nights Summer Gala is coming up on August 12th. We’ve sold every last available ticket and are looking forward to an exciting even of fun, entertainment and fundraising for the Center and WVBI.  But, you don;t have to wait until the Gala (and don;t need to be planning on attending to get in on some fun right now. Our Summer Gala Online Auction is now up and running with a variety of exciting opportunities for island fun, necessities and more that you can bid to win while being assured that all the proceeds will go to support the Community Center and WVBI. Among the items are an opportunity for a chance to captain the Emerald Isle, a fall color tour by air and fishing trips. You can bid at auction.biccenter.org. If you’ve never tried an online auction before (or you just want to see how ours works), we have a handy “Test Auction Item” that you can bid on to see what the process looks like. If you win it, no need to pay (and it will relist soon for others to try).

Please don’t forget to buy your ticket for a chance to win the fantastic Tracker fishing and sport boat that is on display out on our sidewalk,  Tickets are $50 for one and three for $100.  You can buy them at our Front Desk or in our online store at store.biccenter.org.

And, speaking of buying and bidding online, or online store has worked well as a place to purchase tickets for summer events.  In addition to events here at the BIC Center, it has been used for all Baroque on Beaver events as well as the Bocce Ball Roll, BIA’s annual meeting, the island marathons and the Bite of Beaver Boodle. Soon, we plan to add merchandise from our Beaver Island Flag collection as well as other items with an island connection. You can also buy boat raffle tickets there and pick up the Chambers handy island coupon book.  If you’ve used the store to buy tickets, bid on auction items or to buy tickets, coupon books or island merchandise, we’d love to hear about your experience. To keep overhead low, we’ve developed the store ourselves so our developers would welcome your comments on what could make it better. You can submit comments here or by sending an email to info@biccenter.org.

Along with everything else, we have Yoga on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30, the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30, Games Galore from 1:00 to 4:oo on Thursdays and movies on Saturdays at 4 and 7 (unless there is a live event on the schedule).  To keep track of it all along with other events happening on the island, visit our online Community Calendar or catch the Community Calendar Report on WVBI weekdays at 9, noon, 3 and 6.

Oh, and one more thing. I’ve stepped in as managing director at the BIC Center.  I’ll split my time between my work here and the Chamber–and the Chamber has now relocated its hub of activity here to the Community Center.  I’m excited about this new role and look forward to working with the BIC Center and WVBI team.

We look forward to seeing you this summer and fall at your Beaver Island Community Center.
