We’re already in mid-February, the shortest month that sometimes feels the longest, since it sits in the middle of winter. But we’ve got a bouquet of treats at your Community Center this week to liven up the flow, so read on below – and check out the Community Calendar at biccenter.org for more information.Monday evening at 5:00 PM is another round of Qi Gong practice with Tina Carlton, the traditional Chinese movement practice meant to get you centered and limber. That takes place on the theater stage, with donations gladly accepted in support of the BIC Center. Tuesday at 6:00 PM is our Valentine-themed Let’s Get Quizzical! Trivia Night, this time bringing a little love and laughter to the mix! Get ready for a fun-filled evening of brain teasers, belly laughs, and friendly competition with your Beaver Island neighbors. It’s free to play, but register your team at store.biccenter.org. One person per team (up to 6 players) should sign up in advance. Bring a dish to share if you can and your favorite beverage – this is a B.Y.O.B. event. Don’t forget to place your food orders early so you’re ready to jump into the fun at 6:00 PM.
At 5:00 PM Wednesday is Valen-Time for Art, a special art class with a Valentine’s twist. Lois Stipp will lead us in making beautiful handmade Valentine’s Day Cards, perfect for sharing with someone special. Marlaina Cole will show us how to mix up two delightful mocktail recipes: Love Potion # 9 and Pink Shimmy – fun, festive, and delicious. Gather your friends, bring your creativity, and let’s share a heartwarming evening together! This event is freewill donation, made possible by the generosity of people like you.
On Valentine’s Day, Friday at 6:00 PM, we’re celebrating the day of love with a special screening of Moulin Rouge! – the story of a poor Bohemian poet in 1890s Paris who falls for a beautiful courtesan and nightclub star coveted by a jealous duke. Bites provided; BYOB – bring your favorite drink; and dress up & get ready to sing along! Whether you’re celebrating with your sweetheart, your best friends, or just want a fabulous night out, this is the perfect way to spend Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day. Then on Saturday at 6:00 PM we’re showing the classic 90’s romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Freewill donation suggested, and concession stand open for snacks, a meal or both. See you at your Community Center!
