This week’s Week At a Glance is a bit late, but check out the main events happening at your Community Center for the days ahead! At the top of the list on Friday, February 21 at 12:30 PM is the WVBI Changeover Celebration. WVBI is powering up with a brand-new antenna and transmitter, giving us full island coverage. To celebrate this major upgrade, we’re throwing a Launch Party, and YOU’RE invited! Join us as we turn up the volume, enjoy charcuterie and drinks, meet the WVBI team, and toast the Voice of Beaver Island – this is one milestone you won’t want to miss. WVBI is stronger than ever – let’s make radio history together!
Backing up to Thursday, Let’s celebrate Palentine’s together! Please join the Beaver Island Senior Advisory Committee from 2:00 – 3:00 PM to celebrate our special friendships – enjoying sweet treats and warm beverages in the BIC Center Hangout upstairs.
Our Saturday Movies will honor Black History Month, with two features: at 3:00 PM, the documentary Hitsville: The Making of Motown, which focuses on the period beginning with the birth of Motown in Detroit in 1958 until its relocation to Los Angeles in the early 1970’s, narrated by Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, and Stevie Wonder. Then at 6:00 PM is the acclaimed 2024 historical drama The Six Triple Eight, which tells the true story of an all-Black, all-female battalion who joined the fight to fix the three-year backlog of undelivered mail. Faced with discrimination and a country devastated by war, they managed to sort more than 17 million pieces of mail ahead of time.
Head on in to the Community Center this week to take part in these great programs, and we’ll see you there!
