With the historic ice storm passed and the island recovering from it’s impacts, spring slowly unfolds here. This week the BIC Center hosts both ongoing programs and special events, with details about our regular offerings found on the Community Calendar at biccenter.org, and highlights below.

Wednesday’s Time for Art class at 5:00 PM features “Spring-Themed Painting”, with Lois Stipp sharing her deep knowledge of painting methods that encourage all participants to ‘think spring’. The class is free for those 60 and over, with a $5.00 suggested donation for all others.

On Thursday from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM is the COA April Luncheon, this one focusing on local COA volunteer appreciation. Call 231-448-2124 to reserve your ticket. There are 50 meals available, at $3.00 for Beaver Island residents age 60+, and $8.00 for those under 60. On the menu are Hawaiian Pulled Pork Sliders, Sesame Peanut Noodle Salad, Crunchy Asian Slaw, and Vanilla Pineapple Dessert, all prepared by Harbor Bodega Catering. All local registered COA volunteers eat for free, and the meal will feature live music by fiddler Ruby John. Please Note: A planned 12:30 post-lunch presentation by Comfort Keepers Home Care Services introducing local training program graduates has been canceled. It may be rescheduled for a later date.

On Saturday, after enjoying a delicious Easter Brunch at the Christian Church from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, and partaking in an Easter Egg Hunt at the Library at 1:30 PM, come on down to the Community Center to participate in some additional Easter fun, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Our Easter Eggstravaganza will be an Easter fair packed with games and activities for kids of all ages! Don’t forget to stop by for a picture with the Easter Bunny to capture that special Easter moment with your family. There will also be refreshments provided by the BIC Center, plus delicious baked goods donated by local community members. A note to our would-be bakers: If you’re interested in contributing, please drop off your goodies at the BIC Center on Friday or Saturday morning. Donors and Volunteers, here’s how you can help: New game ideas and hosts – We want fresh, exciting games for the kids! Please let us know if you can host a game or suggest a new one. Prizes: Big or small, we need prizes for all the kids to win! Egg Stuffers: Help us fill those eggs with candy, stickers, or small toys. If you’ve got game ideas or prizes to donate, please drop them off at the BIC Center or leave a comment below. Let’s make this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza one to remember.

See you at your Community Center!
