This week will be a rainy one on and off, but we’ve got indoor fun at the BIC Center to keep you active. Details about our regular programs are online at the Community Calendar at biccenter.org, with highlights below.
Monday at 5:00 PM is Qigong practice with TIna Carlton, who is hosting the second-to-last class of the off-season. Its an ancient Chinese medicine practice using gentle movement, meditation, and breathing to promote mental, physical, and spiritual health. Anyone can practice this traditional form regardless of age or physical limitations, and you can be seated for the whole class if necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing. The class is free, but donations go toward the Community Center.
Tuesday at 6:00 PM is another round of Let’s Get Quizzical!, our popular Trivia Night. There is no fee for teams to play, however, it is still required that you register beforehand at store.biccenter.org. Maximum number of teammates is 6 people. Please have only one team member register for the entire team. Please bring a dish to share if you are able to do so. And remember, this is a B.Y.O.B. event, so come prepared! And please place your food orders early so we can have you served and seated before 6:00 PM.
Time for Art at 6:00 PM Wednesday has class series leader Cindy Ricksgers teaching Painting in the Ojibwe Style, combining a little Art History and a project that will explore painting in the Eastern Woodland style of Ojibwe art. Ages 60+ attend free; $5.00 suggested donation for all others. This will be the second-to-last art class of the off-season as well. so make sure join in if you’ve missed out on them lately.

Our Saturday movies are part of the Read it & Reel It book+film collaboration between the Beaver Island District Library and the Community Center. with more details about the pairing found on this Saturday’s movie listings on the Community Calendar. At 3:00 PM is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, a PG-rated animated family comedy. When hard times hit Swallow Falls, its townspeople can only afford to eat sardines. Flint Lockwood, a failed inventor, thinks he has the answer to the town’s crisis by building a machine that converts water into food, and becomes a local hero when tasty treats fall from the sky like rain. At 6:00 PM is Julie & Julia, a biographical drama following the story of Julie Powell, a young blogger determined to emulate Julia Child’s cooking techniques. Though separated by time, the two women share a common passion for food that intertwines their lives. Freewill donation suggested – Concession stand open for snacks, a meal or both.
